An untitled prose poem written by American poet Max Erhmann in 1927. It was published posthumously by his widow in 1945 as “The Desiderata” in The Poems of Max Ehrmann, 1945. The copyright of this piece subsequently – and accidentally – lapsed and, following a lengthy court case, the poem came into the public domain in 1976.
